1. What does affordable housing mean?

The Affordable Housing Association of Nova Scotia (AHANS) provides a diverse range of affordable housing for everyone – households with children, seniors on fixed incomes and single adults who are working to find affordable housing on minimum wage. With each new project, we consider area income data from Statistics Canada, in combination with market data reported by the provincial and federal governments. For many of our projects, affordable rents are dictated by the programs we access to finance the building. AHANS is currently targeting over 30% of units in the proposed building to be affordable. We will do our best to include current market information for Sackville at the information meeting, to provide a more concrete picture of what the numbers may be.

    2. What is AHANS?

The Affordable Housing Association of Nova Scotia is a non-profit housing provider dedicated to creating and maintaining affordable housing for all Nova Scotians. We approach developments prioritizing affordability, energy efficiency and accessibility, striving to meet the needs not only of our project, but of the greater community.
