While the engagement session is over, we would still love to hear from you. Contact Jill if you have specific questions, and join the email list for periodic updates.
We are pleased to share the Middle Sackville What We Heard Report. Thanks to everyone who contributed to this discussion!
YOU’RE INVITED!
The Affordable Housing Association of Nova Scotia (AHANS) is developing a new affordable housing building for your Sackville community. The proposed project is a six-storey rental building with affordable and market housing. The building’s 81 units are a combination of one-, two-, and three-bedroom units, with a small ground-floor commercial space.
The Community Engagement Session has taken place:
- When: Tuesday January 13th – drop in any time between 6:30 p.m. and 8:30 p.m.
- Where: Sackville Heights Junior High School
This open house will provide you with an opportunity to learn more about this development – including environmental and community considerations that have been incorporated into the planning – and offer a chance to speak directly with AHANS representatives who can answer your questions.
Importantly, we want to hear from you about how you would like to see the historic community of Maroon Hill engaged and reflected within this development. This is your chance to help mold the development so that it meaningfully commemorates the history and importance of Maroon Hill and its descendants.

OUR APPROACH TO THIS DEVELOPMENT:
- Capitalizes on the topography of the sloped site and proposes landscaping buffers to mitigate the building’s impact along Sackville, Lumberman, and Canting Drives.
- Concentrates development in a small area of the northwest corner to ensure the existing wetlands are not disrupted.
- Proposes and supports the creation of a new bus stop on Sackville Drive to accommodate new residents and minimize congestion.
- Targets net-zero energy use annually by utilizing PV solar panels.
- Maintains the existing informal walking trail and includes an effort to formalize.
- Sets market-rate leases at the low end of the market, as determined by an appraisal for the area, which are necessary to offset the lower revenue of affordable units.
